This is a picture of a picture of me and the Trans icon Miss Major. She has been through so much and she is still a very very kind person. She has personally been through the Stonewall riots and was a strong activist. She is a big old now, but her smile definitely keeps her young. This picture is a bit old, dating Feb 17th 2010. I don’t think she is in the speakers circuit anymore, but UCRIverside was fortunate to bring her out in the last few times she was available. I hope she is doing well. :)
You should know that you’re just a temporary fix This is not routine with you it don’t mean that much to me oh just a filler in the space that happened to be free How dare you think you’d get away with trying to play me
So today I got to meet a special person - my mother’s new bf. His name is Randy (Randall)
So this place was a place that I been wanting to go to for the longest time. I remember just going to the Brea Mall and just looking at this place thinking “One day I’m going to eat here”.
We get seated and bread was quickly brought to us. The bread was warm but the butter was this frozen thing I was like…. *CLANK* on mah plate.
The appetizer was a smoked salmon on toast it tasted yummy.
I ordered the white fish with scallops in a black truffle butter sauce. It was orgasmically amazing. I didn’t take pictures because… it wasn’t the classiest thing to do at a place like this. There was a side of mashed/scalloped potatoes, carrots, and beans.
There was a wine that accompanied this a cabernet.
After that… cuz im a fatty…. I had a slice of raspberry cake which was amazing.. but i have to have at least one picture…
This is a picture of the cork from the wine that we all drank and what I wore.. iono what i was thinking…
So after the art gallery, we actually had to perform… it’s taken a while to get to this point, but I’m hella excited to perform. Our members were trickling in due to the drive. We were scheduled to perform at 8:45pm. Our dress code was to be not so sharp. So my friends were wearing dress shirts and gym shorts.
While I wore a dress with leggings, no bra, no wig and no make up, just a hott ass mess.
We did stunningly and groups definitely love to bring us out again, and We definitely love coming. It’s times like these that make community between campuses amazing. Afterwards, I changed back into regular clothing and we ate at In and out, and we sang a few of the songs we didn’t sing in the concert, I pulled out my Gaga arrangement <3.
2/3 Bromances in our a capella group :P
We had an amazing time. Highlanders and Anteaters can get along <3
I unfortunately had to go my separate way while being on the campus of UCI. I first met my cousin that goes there to hang out with him a bit and met a few of his friends. They were studying for a statistics midterm, while my cousin was studying for biochem. I basically schooled him a little bit, talking about chaperone enzymes and how they dig amino acid sequences out of a non-functioning enzyme and bring them closer to being functional. Apparently one of the girls in the study group went to the ABC conference, even though she didn’t see me. I WAS THE ONLY GAY MALE ASIAN THEREEEE. /rant :P Another girl had a tumblr, she is nao a follower O_O.
Then it was time for my meeting and I met with the Program Coordinator of the LGBTRC. Her name was Genice and he was a former Highlander for her Undergrad. *Go Highlanders*. I was there to talk about the upcoming Queer People of Color Conference and to pick their brains on how they program. Apparently they take a few programs from us -_-. But I got to know more of the campus climate (conservative) and that putting programs themselves are a lot harder due to the investment of the city of Irvine into the institution. For example, my Porn event, would not even be considered on the campus of UCI due to it’s conservative constituents/supporters of the campus. But Irvine is less of a commuter school than UCR. Regardless, both campuses are VERY apathetic.
I met a few of my high school friends just casually bumping into them. AND I got to meet my faves pen pal Cameron while being in the LGBTRC. I do try to squeeze as much as I can when I’m in new places. Cameron invited us to see an art show with free wine (before the A Capella show). I told him that I would bring it up with my friends. We ended up going and here are a few of the art exhibits by the grad art students.
I just thought it was really interesting how they used the light to project their art onto the wall.
This exhibit was interesting, these white bird-like projections would start flapping when motion sensors noticed a human pass through, but through heavy population, these bird would die. It was nice symbolism that human predation/overpopulation will one day strain the rest of the natural world, or perhaps that day is closing upon us.
This past Thursday we (Not So Sharp A Capella) were invited by the all male A Capella group Circle of Fifths to their winter concert. We have had collaborations with a Capella groups down there Claire De Lune. Every time we get invited we try to make a whole day of it and enjoy the city of Irvine. I skipped a class and unfortunately had to get out of a cultural event on my own campus (shout outs to Winter Soulstice, and my lovely Co-director Bo Vongprachanh for putting this whole event together she is a truly amazing womyn). Miguel and Jus-tus came out to the concert.
We, Ernani, Jay, Leslie, Dustin, and I were the first car to leave Riverside to a trek to the beautiful but apparently conservative city of Irvine. I got a small nap and then noticed that we were already there. I had kind of a “date” planned for the car and we decided to eat at a pretty nice place called Guppy’s. I texted a few of my friends to see what their preferences were, to just eat sumthing that’s reasonably good. I ended up with the Kim Chi and Pork dumplings for the group
and then the Pineapple fried rice (it was in a pineapple!):
Leslie got the dry noodles - they tasted starchy and amazing <3 with a side of pineapple, tofu?, and pickled cucumbers (not pickles.. dont be trippin)
Jay got popcorn chicken, and Dustin got the popcorn chicken salad:
We all definitely had a good time in eating everything. It was a GOOD serving and spending time with family is always a good time. After finishing Guppy’s I suggested that we all go to 85 Degrees. It was GOOD and I realized that I LOVE TARO SOOO MUCHHHH. Taro is my guilty pleasure. I got two taro buns and i finished one before I even thought of taking a pic of it :( I’m a fatty I know. wahhh~
After thoroughly being a fat ass, we went to a korean super market and one of our peeps decided to buy a small gift for a person they like. I’ll just leave it at that. Then we went to the campus of UCI; where I had a meeting with a staff person there (yes I’m that big of a deal :P JK)
This past Tuesday, as part of being the cultural director, was one of my programs called “Demystification of the Porn industry”. It is made for the sole purpose of being an educational event with showing the least amount of porn possible. The first hour was a documentary screening of the HBO special “Thinking XXX”, then the next hour and a half there was a Q&A panel consisting of Professors that research porn, as well as Porn stars (Brooke Banner, her partner Haigo, Gino Colbert, and the famous Ron Jeremy).
Being a programmer, I thought this was going to be a popular program, and Facebook reflected that. 300 people were going, so I ordered 350 seats for the audience. The day of the event, not only did I fill 350 seats, but an additional 150 seats were ordered and filled. The room was at maximum capacity. We had to turn away 200 students. This made me sad :(
This was the line going through the hallway, slowly letting people into the venue.
The biggest room available with AV equipment…filled.
Me with Brooke Banner, she’s really pretty and definitely a funny character when meeting with her in person.
Gino Colbert on the left, and Ron Jeremy on the right (obviously).
The whole event was amazingly fun and getting to know a side of society that is often left misinterpreted is definitely a fun thing to bring on campus. There were however some negative backlash to any event and something this controversial as the exposition of pornography from individuals’ opinions would stir the pot a bit. The event overall was a success. It hopefully opened up the mind of individuals and know that porn is not all just in front of the camera.
